Silva was a product of the Valencia youth system, where he returned from loan spells at Eibar and Celta Vigo to make his name as an attacking midfielder in La Liga, and in the Champions League.

His international debut came in 2006, and Silva was a regular in the Spain side that triumphed at Euro 2008.

He was also part of the 2010 World-Cup winning squad, but only appeared twice - starting Spain's opening defeat to Switzerland and appearing as a substitute in their semi-final defeat of Germany.

Shortly after the World Cup, Silva was signed by Manchester City for a fee believed to be in the region of £25 million.

Still just 24, Silva remains among the most exciting prospects in world football.
