Martis prepared to battle for starting berth
West Brom centre-back Shelton Martis has welcomed the competition new signing Gonzalo Jara has brought to the squad and is fully prepared to put up a fight to keep his place in Roberto Di Matteo`s starting XI.[LNB]Martis has been a regular feature at the heart of the Baggies defence this term and he hopes to keep it that way as the club look to continue their quest for another immediate return to the Premier League.[LNB]"If the manager picks you then you just play to the best of your abilities," the 26-year-old told the club's official website.[LNB]"If he brings in someone else then that`s up to him because he makes the decisions.[LNB]"I started last season way down in the pecking order but this season it is different and I'm going to work really hard to make sure we go back up.[LNB]"I need to stay fit and make sure I play to the best of my abilities."
