Player Details
John Rooney is an attacking player who signed professional terms with Macclesfield Town in the summer of 2008 after previously being at the club as a trainee. John made his League debut as a 17-year-old in March 2008 and gained further experience in 2008-09 when he netted his first senior goal. John, who is the younger brother of England star Wayne, has been used both as a striker and in midfield. In 2009-10 he was a regular member of the first-team squad contributing a couple of goals in the first half of the season. He departed from Moss Rose in the summer of 2010 and headed for the USA. After trials with Seattle and Portland John signed for MLS club New York Red Bulls in January 2011.
