Watford are in advanced talks with Torino over a deal for Brazilian centre-back Lyanco, who has been playing in Italy since 2017 and started 21 games in Serie A last season.
90min understands that an agreement over a transfer that will be worth in excess of £7m is now close and Torino are weighing up potential replacements for the 24-year-old.
Lyanco started his career in the youth ranks at famed Rio de Janeiro club Botafogo, before making the switch to Sao Paulo where he made his senior breakthrough as a teenager in 2015.
He stands to be Watford’s ninth major signing of a busy summer following promotion back to the Premier League and will strengthen a group of centre-backs that already includes Christian Kabasele, William Troost-Ekong, Craig Cathcart and Francisco Sierralta.
Torino’s search for a replacement has led them to Scotland international Jack Hendry, who completed a permanent move to Belgian club Oostende for under £2m earlier this summer.
Hendry managed to resurrect his career at Oostende after a failed stint at Celtic and has been garnering Premier League interest from a handful of clubs because of his form.
The expectation has long been that Oostende, having negotiated a relatively small option to buy when they agreed the initial loan deal with Celtic, would quickly cash in if an offer is made.
90min can reveal that Hendry has a low release clause under £5m, which could be attractive to Torino. Brighton, Southampton, Sheffield United and Rangers are all also in the mix for him.
Another potential option Torino are considering is Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers. The 23-year-old United States international has spent the last four years on loan at various Championship clubs but was once again involved with his parent club during pre-season.
Bournemouth, who had him on loan last season, Newcastle, Fulham and Celtic are all interested in Carter-Vickers in addition to Torino.
