Tottenham officials watch Pau Torres & Arnaut Danjuma in Liverpool loss

Tottenham officials were present in both legs of Villarreal's Champions League semi-final defeat to Liverpool to keep a watchful eye over transfer targets Pau Torres and Arnaut Danjuma, 90min understands.

The Yellow Submarine fell 2-0 in the first leg at Anfield but managed to wipe Liverpool's advantage out in the return fixture thanks to first-half goals from Boulaye Dia and Francis Coquelin. However, the Reds came roaring back after the break and scored three times to end Villarreal's hopes of reaching a maiden Champions League final.

90min understands that officials from Spurs were in attendance for both games in order to keep tabs on Torres and Danjuma, with the Villarreal pair on their radar for the summer transfer window.

The two players were both on show during the first leg and were watched closely by Spurs, and although they also planned to watch the pair in the second game as well, Torres was the sole focus of the scouts' trip to Villarreal as Danjuma was ruled out with a muscle injury.

Torres revealed late in 2021 that he rejected a move to Tottenham last summer as he wanted to play Champions League football with his hometown club. But Villarreal look set to only feature in the Europa Conference League next season and plenty of clubs have registered an interest in him, including Manchester United.

Speaking to 90min in April, Danjuma admitted that he did not appreciate English football as much as he should have during his two years at Bournemouth and said "you are always going to miss a bit of England."

On the latest episode of Oh What A Night, 90min's Sean Walsh and Jude Summerfield review Spurs' patchy form, their win against Leicester and look ahead to Saturday's trip to Liverpool.

Spurs were not the only club who were watching Villarreal's players with views for summer moves on Tuesday following their excellent run in Europe. However, 90min can confirm that the specific purpose of Tottenham's visit was to keep a close eye on Torres and Danjuma in particular.

There does remain a strong Spurs contingent at the Spanish club. Giovani Lo Celso, who is currently on loan at Villarreal, and Argentina teammate Juan Foyth completed the full 90 minutes in Tuesday's defeat. Serge Aurier came on as a late substitute, while Etienne Capoue - part of the 'magnificent seven' bought to replace Gareth Bale in 2013 - grabbed two clever assists before being sent off late in the day.
