All eyes will be on north London on Saturday evening as Tottenham welcome Pep Guardiola's Manchester City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after an action-packed international break.

Spurs will be hoping to maintain the fine form that has seen them claim second place in the league table, while tenth-placed Man City will be looking to turn a corner after a rather underwhelming start to the campaign.

The Lilywhites can go top of the league should they avoid defeat against City, with Leicester visiting Anfield on Sunday.

Here's 90min's preview of the game.

Team News

Jose Mourinho will have to make at least one change from the win over West Bromwich Albion, as Matt Doherty is unavailable after testing positive for COVID-19 while on international duty.

Gareth Bale has said he was ‘concerned’ having hugged Doherty after Wales’ game with Ireland but he has since returned a negative test. Erik Lamela is still out while Tanguy Ndombele is doubtful.

As for City, Nathan Ake pulled his hamstring after playing just six minutes of the Netherlands' 1-1 draw with Spain and will sit this one out. Raheem Sterling sat out England's 4-0 win over Iceland on Wednesday after a calf issue and it remains to be seen whether he is in the frame for an appearance.

Sergio Aguero is still recovering from his hamstring injury and won't be in contention for the tie. The game comes too soon for longer-term absentees Fernandinho and Benjamin Mendy.

Predicted Lineups

Tottenham: Lloris: Aurier, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilón; Højbjerg, Sissoko, Lo Celso; Son, Kane, Bale

Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo; Gündoğan, Rodri, De Bruyne; Torres, Jesus, Mahrez

Recent Form

Spurs are on the longest unbeaten run so far this Premier League season, going seven matches without defeat. They are looking to win four consecutive league fixtures for the first time since February 2019 under Mauricio Pochettino.

Harry Kane has been involved in 23 goals in only 14 matches in all competitions this season - eight more than any other Premier League player - after 13 strikes and 10 assists. The next highest player on the list is his teammate Son Heung-min, with ten goals and five assists.

As for the Citizens, despite their slow start to the campaign it's been a decent couple of weeks with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool following up a narrow 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

City haven't looked themselves in front of goal this season with just ten strikes in seven league outings. However, with Gabriel Jesus back from injury and Kevin De Bruyne finding form after a good couple of performances for Belgium, all that could change very soon.

Here's how both sides have fared in their last five games in all competitions.

Tottenham

West Bromwich Albion 0-1 Tottenham ( 08/11 )
Ludogorets 1-3 Tottenham ( 05/11 )
Tottenham 2-1 Brighton ( 01/11 )
Antwerp 1-0 Tottenham ( 29/10 )
Burnley 0-1 Tottenham ( 26/10 )

Manchester City

Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool ( 08/11 )
Manchester City 3-0 Olympiacos ( 03/11 )
Sheffield United 0-1 Manchester City ( 31/10 )
Marseille 0-3 Manchester City ( 27/10 )
West Ham United 1-1 Manchester City ( 24/10 )

Prediction

This will be the 24th meeting in all competitions between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola. Mourinho's ten defeats in those duels are more than he has suffered against any other manager, while Guardiola has only beaten Manuel Pellegrini more often, with 12 victories.

Tottenham's levels have dropped somewhat in recent weeks while City are yet to truly find their rhythm in front of goal. Though the Manchester club has improved drastically in defence, their potency up front will be put to the test against an in-form Spurs side.

It will send a big message to the rest of the league should Tottenham get the better of City. Though Jose Mourinho will have a game plan in mind, Pep Guardiola will have a trick or two up his sleeve as he goes head to head with a familiar foe.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Manchester City
