Tottenham 3-1 Leicester: Player ratings as Spurs return to winning ways

From Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Spurs ended a run of two games without a win with a 3-1 victory at home to Leicester on Sunday.

Antonio Conte's men weathered an early storm before turning on the style to ensure they moved one point clear of rivals Arsenal ahead of the Gunners' trip to West Ham.

Patson Daka struck the post after 14 minutes after some great work from Boubakary Soumare down the right flank, bodying Ben Davies and rolling the ball back into the path of the Zambian who was unlucky not to find the net instead.

Davies had his blushes soared again moments later when Kelechi Iheanacho robbed him of possession and was fortunate that Cristian Romero cut out Marc Albrighton's cross to Daka, who was waiting for a simple tap-in.

Spurs managed to settle their early nerves and get a foot-hold back in the game with Davies going close following a free-kick at the other end, but Caglar Soyuncu deflected his close-range attempt over.

And Tottenham opened the scoring from the resulting corner as Harry Kane headed Son Heung-min's corner in at Kasper Schmeichel's near post, registering Spurs' first shot on target since their 4-0 win at Aston Villa three weeks ago in the process.

Leicester were let off the hook when Nampalys Mendy's rogue back pass was intercepted by Kane, but Schmeichel came racing off his line to save the striker's shot with his feet.

Weak defending by Ryan Sessegnon saw Iheanacho get a quick snap-shot off, but the Nigerian dragged it just wide of Hugo Lloris' goal.

A loose header from Lucas Moura was cut out by Perez and his effort nearly deflected kindly into Daka's path, but the former RB Salzburg man was an inch away from making a solid contact.

After the break, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg spurned a great chance to shoot after being put through by Cristian Romero, but the Dane didn't realise how much time and space he was in and instead played a poor pass out wide to Lucas.

Substitute Dejan Kulusevski walked through the Leicester backline with a mazing dribble, but slipped at the crucial moment and the ball rolled behind for a goal kick.

And Leicester were incensed when Kulusevski set up Spurs' seconds soon after. A strong challenge from Romero on Soyuncu saw the hosts win back possession, and Kulusevski drifting past Daniel Amartey to tee up Son for his 18th Premier League goal of the season - a new personal best.

Son wasn't done there though, adding another pearler to his collection late on with a beautiful whipped effort into the very top corner.

Jamie Vardy headed just wide in the final minute of normal time before Iheanacho grabbed a consolation with a well-struck effort from 20 yards.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City player ratings

1. Tottenham (3-4-3)

What a duo | Marc Atkins/GettyImages

GK: Hugo Lloris - 6/10 - Kicking is beginning to improve and that's helping Spurs play from the back a little better.

CB: Cristian Romero - 9/10 - One of Tottenham's best signings in years. Plays with such aggression and maturity and was a catalyst in their victory.

CB: Eric Dier - 6/10 - Distribution was a little so-so but it didn't really cost Spurs.

CB: Ben Davies - 4/10 - Had a nightmare opening 20 minutes but improved thereafter.

RWB: Emerson Royal - 4/10 - Once again offered little at either end except a minor height advantage.

CM: Rodrigo Bentancur - 8/10 - Danced and pranced his way through midfield but brought a bit of bite when required.

CM: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - 7/10 - A little off technically but was as reliable as ever physically.

LWB: Ryan Sessegnon - 5/10 - Far too predictable on the ball and failed to get the better of a leggy Albrighton.

RF: Lucas Moura - 3/10 - Incredibly frustrating and wasteful. Lacked any awareness but at least worked hard. Subbed early in the second half.

CF: Harry Kane - 8/10 - Took his goal well and enjoyed dropping deep to spread play and bring others into Spurs' attacks.

LF: Son Heung-min - 10/10 - Another two goals and one assist for Tottenham's most prolific player this season.

SUB: Dejan Kulusevski (55' for Lucas) - 8/10 - Changed the game. Brought a precision and technical ability that Lucas lacked.

SUB: Harry Winks (82' for Bentancur) - N/A

SUB: Steven Bergwijn (82' for Son) - N/A

2. Leicester (3-5-2)

GK: Kasper Schmeichel - 3/10 - Had no command of his own penalty area and was looking for calls in Leicester's favour that weren't ever going to come.

CB: Timothy Castagne - 5/10 - Did well in helping Albrighton keep Sessegnon quiet. Couldn't do the same with Son, mind.

CB: Daniel Amartey - 3/10 - Lost the run of Kane for Spurs' opener and was generally haphazard.

CB: Caglar Soyuncu - 3/10 - Unreliable in the challenge, weak in the air, typically clumsy.

RWB: Marc Albrighton - 4/10 - Nutmegged by one Benjamin Thomas Davies. Lacked any pace but wasn't a glaring black hole in Leicester's game plan.

CM: Boubakary Soumare - 5/10 - Started well but faded once Bentancur and Hojbjerg got going.

CM: Nampalys Mendy - 2/10 - Totally off the pace. Run ragged in the midfield battle.

LWB: Luke Thomas - 4/10 - Enjoyed locking up Lucas but was given the runaround after Kulusevski's introduction.

AM: Ayoze Perez - 6/10 - Leicester's main source of creativity but was feeding on scraps.

CF: Kelechi Iheanacho - 6/10 - Sharp to begin with but failed to cause Tottenham any real trouble until his stoppage time goal.

CF: Patson Daka - 3/10 - Swallowed up by Romero after a promising start.

SUB: Jamie Vardy (67' for Daka) - 4/10

SUB: Lewis Brunt (67' for Soumare) - 4/10

SUB: Youri Tielemans (76' for Perez) - 4/10
