Sunderland hitman Ross Stewart has been crowned the PFA Vertu Motors League One Fans' Player of the Year for 2021/22.

In what was just his first full season for the Black Cats, the Scot tormented League One with a return of 24 goals in 46 games, leaving him second in the division's scoring charts.

To keep the good times rolling, Stewart bagged two goals in three play-off games to finally end Sunderland's wait for a return to the Championship, netting the winner in the semi-final first leg and firing home the second goal in the 2-0 win over Wycombe in the final.

Stewart picked up 24% of the votes to secure the PFA Vertu Motors League One Fans' Player of the Year award, fending off close competition from Ipswich Town's Wes Burns.

Burns, who stole the show at times as a marauding wing-back at Portman Road, came narrowly behind Stewart with 21% of the votes.

There was a tough battle for third place as well. In the end, it was MK Dons' Scott Twine who secured the final spot on the podium with 17% of the votes.

Fewer than 200 behind was Barry Bannan of Sheffield Wednesday, who was the pick of 10,932 supporters.

Rounding out the top six were Alfie May of Cheltenham Town (12%) and the division's top scorer, Wigan's Will Keane (11%).
