Southampton predicted lineup vs Chelsea - Premier League

07 April 2022 21:00

Southampton will look to finally win a game again as they host Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's men have been suffering a very poor run of form in recent weeks, although managed to end a run of four defeats on the bounce last time out, as they earned a 1-1 draw away at Leeds.

This weekend brings with it a very tough test in the shape of Chelsea - although there won't be a better time to face the Blues, who have conceded seven goals in two games in heavy defeats to Brentford and Real Madrid.

Here's how the hosts could shape up...

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Fraser Forster (GK) - Alex McCarthy is nearing a return to fitness, although Forster's spot between the sticks is under no immediate threat.

Tino Livramento (RB) - Been a bit of a revelation since his arrival last summer, and now has the chance to showcase his talents against his former club.

Jan Bednarek (CB) - Set for a 15th successive Premier League start at the heart of the Saints' backline.

Mohammed Salisu (CB) - Has missed just two Premier League outings for Southampton this term.

Kyle Walker-Peters (LB) - Enjoying a brilliant campaign - whether he features on the right or left of defence.

2. Midfielders

Oriol Romeu (DM) - A stalwart in the Saints midfield, the Spaniard is in line for a 29th Premier League appearance this weekend.

James Ward-Prowse (CM) - The undoubted first name on the team sheet, Ward-Prowse has hit some top form at the heart of the side this campaign.

Ibrahima Diallo (CM) - With Hasenhuttl possibly using the same shape as he did last time out, Diallo could be in line for a second consecutive start here.

Mohamed Elyounoussi (AM) - Has put in some really good displays over recent weeks, and should continue in the starting XI for this one.

3. Forwards

Che Adams (ST) - No goal in his last five for Southampton, but Adams - who heads into this weekend with 10 league goal involvements this term - will always represent a goal threat.

Adam Armstrong (ST) - The likely replacement for Armando Broja, who is ineligible for selection against his parent club.
