Danny Ings' hopes of playing for England at this summer's European Championship are in jeopardy after it was revealed the Southampton striker could be out for the remainder of the season.
The 28-year-old picked up a hamstring injury during the defeat at Tottenham last weekend and his boss Ralph Hasenhuttl couldn't guarantee he'll play for the Saints again before the campaign is over.
When asked about the severity of Ings' issue, the Austrian said: "He now misses a few games. I don't know if he comes back for the last games."
Ings has been capped by England on three occasions to date, and having scored 22 goals in the top flight last season his stock has risen.
He hasn't managed to hit the heights of last season this time around but the former Liverpool man has once again reached double figures in the Premier League despite Southampton's struggles.
His last appearance in an England shirt came during a 3-0 victory over Wales in October - a game in which he scored. Ings missed out on the squad for last month's World Cup qualifiers due to injury, and while there was never any guarantee he'd be going to the Euros, the fact his chances have reduced further by this latest injury will be devastating.
Ings signed for Liverpool from Burnley back in 2015, but having struggled to establish himself at Anfield for a number of reasons, after an initial loan spell at St. Mary's, the striker joined the Saints permanently and appears to have found himself a home on the south coast.
There is likely to be some interest in the forward once again in the summer, but unless he can overcome his injury problems he may see his dreams of securing a move to a top club and representing his country regularly scuppered.
