Nuno Espirito Santo on verge of Crystal Palace job

Former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is in advanced negotiations with Crystal Palace ahead of joining the Eagles this summer.

Nuno left Wolves by mutual agreement after the end of last season but was eager to find a new position in the Premier League as soon as possible, seeing his name linked to a handful of sides very quickly.

Links to Tottenham were quickly shot down, but the Telegraph note that he was interviewed by both Everton and Palace - and it's the latter who have pushed ahead with their plans to land the Portuguese boss.

Talks between Palace and Nuno have progressed quickly and the Eagles are now hopeful of finalising a deal to bring him to the club in the coming days.

Palace have looked at a number of different candidates since Roy Hodgson's departure from Selhurst Park was confirmed, including Frank Lampard, Sean Dyche, Valerien Ismael and Swansea boss Steve Cooper - who at one stage was the club's preferred candidate. But after speaking with Nuno, he has quickly moved to the top of their wish list.

The Eagles are understandably keen to appoint him as quickly as possible, ahead of what could be the most important summer in recent club history.

Palace are set to lose no fewer than 12 players on a free transfer this summer, including the likes of
Mamadou Sakho, Andros Townsend and Patrick van Aanholt, so there's clearly an enormous rebuilding job to be undertaken.

There's also the small matter of Wilfried Zaha's future to sort out. The influential winger has again asked to be sold this summer, and while Palace are reluctant to offload their talisman, they may have no choice but to cash in and reinvest the money accrued on the rest of their threadbare squad.

With the heir to Zaha's throne, Ebere Eze, expected to be out until 2022 through injury, Palace are in desperate need of a spark to pick themselves up off the ground - and appointing Nuno appears to the catalyst for change in south London.
