Newcastle are expected to increase their interest in Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, after failing in their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike.
The Magpies want to sign a new centre-forward but their £70m offer to Eintracht Frankfurt for the 23-year-old Frenchman was rejected.
Wissa is also a target for Tottenham and Nottingham Forest, but Newcastle will now be favourites to sign the 28-year-old Democratic Republic of Congo international.
