Former Manchester United great Dwight Yorke has been forced to put his £2.5m Cheshire home up for sale, as his personal financial situation deteriorates according to reports.

As reported by the Sun, the former Trinidad and Tobago international has seen his assets diminish following the decline of his company Dwight Yorke Promotions, and could be on the verge of bankruptcy as a result.

And now, in an effort to raise funds, Yorke has been forced to put is Cheshire home - which he previously - shared with former partner Katie Price, up for sale.

Yorke's company assets, according to latest records, show a 73 per cent decline on the previous year, and considering bank overdraft fees and loans, it had net assets of just £2.

It's a far cry from Yorke's playing days, which were highlighted by his hugely successful sting at Old Trafford.

In the late nineties he formed half of a legendary Manchester United double-act with Englishman Andy Cole - the pair bagged an incredible 53 goals in for United in their treble-winning season of 1998/99.

In all, the ex-striker netted 65 times for Sir Alex Ferguson’s team in four wonderful seasons, before being sold by the fiery Scot to Blackburn in 2002 - throughout this period, he remained housed in Cheshire.

Yorke, who had previously spent nine successful years with Aston Villa, then become somewhat of a journeyman, ending his career by playing for Birmingham, Sydney FC and Sunderland.
