Man Utd 3-3 Everton: Player ratings as Dominic Calvert-Lewin nets injury-time equaliser

07 February 2021 01:10

Manchester United threw away two vital points on Saturday evening, drawing 3-3 with Everton in a pulsating clash at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils grabbed the lead on 24 minutes, when Marcus Rashford curled a delightful cross into the box, and Edinson Cavani peeled off his marker to head home clinically.

Bruno Fernandes then curled a delightful clipped shot over Robin Olsen first-half stoppage time, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's stars went into the half-time break with a two-goal advantage.

But Everton refused to lie down and immediately pulled one back at the start of the second half when David De Gea palmed the ball into Abdoulaye Doucoure's path, and the midfielder tapped home into an empty net. The Toffees stunned Man Utd by completing the comeback three minutes later, with James Rodriguez rifling the ball into De Gea's near post from the edge of the box.

Olsen then gifted the lead back to the Red Devils, inexplicably allowing Scott McTominay's header to limp over the line from a Luke Shaw cross, but the drama wasn't finished there as Dominic Calvert-Lewin poked home a dramatic 95th minute equaliser to snatch a point.

Let's check out the player ratings from a thrilling evening at Old Trafford.

MANCHESTER UNITED

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

David De Gea (GK) - 4/10 - Flapped a lazy, lazy hand attempting to push Calvert-Lewin's cross from danger, instead palming it into an opponent. Didn't cover himself in glory for the final goal, either.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) - 7/10 - Guarded that right side attentively, and bagged another assist for himself and his FPL faithful, knocking the ball into Fernandes, who did the rest.

Victor Lindelof (CB) - 6/10 - Almost got a nose bleed from a marauding slalom into the Everton penalty area, but was dispossessed before any real damage was done. Took the ball off Maguire's head from a cross, and the mix up cost Man Utd the equaliser.

Harry Maguire (CB) - 5/10 - Stuck his head on a number of crosses to deny Calvert-Lewin the space to operate. Surrendered possession late on, but was probably fouled. Played everyone onside in the final free-kick.

Luke Shaw (LB) - 7/10 - Another decent performance from England's in-form defender. Over and underlapped down the left, and stung Olsen's palms with a pile driver. Curled in the cross for the third and deserved the three points.

2. Midfielders

Scott McTominay (CM) - 8/10 - Bossed the midfield, charging around and winning the ball with great drive and energy. A real dominant figure in the centre of the park, and rarely wasted a pass. Stuck his head on the ball which crawled beyond Olsen.

Paul Pogba (CM) - 6/10 - Pogba was growing into the game until his injury on 39 minutes, which forced Solskjaer into making one of his substitutions before half-time. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious.

Bruno Fernandes (CM) - 8/10 - What a beautiful, beautiful goal. Curled to perfection and caught Olsen completely off guard. Always looking vertically to get Man Utd moving. Turned up yet again.

3. Forwards

Mason Greenwood (RW) - 7/10 - Jinked down that right flank on plenty of occasions, but skewed a shot well wide when he should have done better. Grew frustrated when things didn't go his way in the second half.

Edinson Cavani (ST) - 7/10 - Powered home the opener with a wonderful header, giving Godfrey the slip with his experience. Led the line intelligently.

Marcus Rashford (LW) - 7/10 - Whipped in the most delicious of crosses, just begging for Cavani to put it away. He did. Missed chances, but had Holgate on toast all night long.

4. Substitutes

Fred (CM) - 6/10

Axel Tuanzebe (CB) - N/A

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Robin Olsen (GK) - 4/10 - Left totally stunned by the brass on Fernandes to clip the ball over him from the edge of the box. We don't have even the words to explain the error for the third goal. He seemed to glitch like a FIFA character?

Mason Holgate (RB) - 6/10 - Not his best display. Gave the ball away too often and a rush of blood to the head almost allowed Rashford to reinstate the hosts' lead. Constantly turned inside out by the winger.

Michael Keane (CB) - 7/10 - Defended well, cutting out any aerial threat in his quarters and keeping Cavani at bay. The best of the backline.

Ben Godfrey (CB) - 6/10 - Beaten all ends up by Cavani's brilliant movement, misjudging the flight of the ball for the opener. Supplied the wonder ball behind Man Utd's defence for Doucoure's eventual strike.

Lucas Digne (LB) - 6/10 - Didn't do enough to close down Rashford's cross, giving him all the time in the world to pick his spot. Couldn't get near Greenwood at times.

6. Midfielders

Abdoulaye Doucoure (CM) - 8/10 - Tapped home to bring Everton back into the game, and then cut the ball to the edge of the box for Rodriguez to equalise.

Andre Gomes (CM) - 6/10 - Didn't have much joy in the early stages, but grew into the game as Everton began to get a foothold. Tidy, if not spectacular.

Tom Davies (CM) - 6/10 - Offered plenty of bite and vigour in the midfield, and put the pressure on in the second half when the Toffees started to turn the screw.

7. Forwards

James Rodriguez (RW) - 7/10 - Turned in a quiet first half, but exploded in the second, crashing home the equaliser with the most precise of finishes into the near post. Sadly subbed.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (ST) - 7/10 - How did he miss?! Put the ball wide when clean through at the end of the half. Made amends by supplying the goal which halved Everton's deficit. His moment came though, albeit very, very late. Decisive.

Richarlison (LW) - 7/10 - Looked to stretch Man Utd with his pace down the left, and kept Wan-Bissaka on his toes. Spurned a great, late chance to pull level.

8. Substitutes
