Bayern Munich's David Alaba is on Manchester City's shopping list, as the club plot a substantial rebuild in the summer.

Pep Guardiola's side's title defence was as good as over by November as Liverpool cruised to the Premier League crown and, having lost a selection of first-team regulars, a major overhaul is on the cards in the transfer window.

Vincent Kompany departed at the end of the 2018/19 season, with David Silva poised to follow suit this summer. Leroy Sane is on the cusp of joining Bayern Munich, while Sergio Agüero and Fernandinho are entering the final year of their contracts and the latter stages of their careers.

Alaba has been at Bayern since 2010

According to the Guardian, City are targeting Alaba as part of their summer rebuild. The 28-year-old City's radar because of his versatility; Alaba can be deployed at left-back and centre-half - two areas City are keen on strengthening.

Alaba was part of the Bayern side that won three successive Bundesliga titles under Guardiola between 2013 and 2016, and has picked up four more German titles since.

90min revealed City's interest in Alaba back in May - with the Austrian international considered as being used as leverage as part of the deal to bring Sane to Bayern.

Alaba has been a target of City's for a number of months

Although Sane is set to depart the Etihad for around €60m with Alaba not part of the deal, City's interest in the defender remains.

Alaba has just one year remaining on his Bayern deal and although the German champions are looking to extend it, nothing has been agreed. They would likely look to sell this summer rather than lose him for nothing next year.

The Guardian also report that Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is on City's wish list. 90min exclusively revealed in January that City were prepared to activate the 29-year-old's £100m release clause - although the financial uncertainty triggered by the coronavirus may limit how much the club are now prepared to pay.
