Liverpool Send Scouts to Watch Young Parma Midfielder Dejan Kulusevski Amid Flurry of Interest

​Liverpool have joined the race to sign Dejan Kulusevski after sending scouts to watch the versatile young midfielder during Parma's 1-0 defeat to AC Milan.


The Swedish international is nearing the halfway mark of a season-long loan from Atalanta and has garnered rave reviews with some impressive displays for Roberto D'Aversa's side this campaign.


Kulusevski has been predominantly played as a right winger but has been used in a variety of positions for Parma this season, including central midfield, earning his first cap for Sweden during his nation's Euro 2020 qualifying clash with Faroe Islands in November.

Such have been his performances this season that the likes of Wolves and Southampton's interest was overshadowed by the intrigue of more established European outfits Inter, Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester United, as per ​Tutto Mercato Web.


Since then, those sides have been joined by current Premier League leaders ​Liverpool, who ​FC Inter News claim sent a scout to watch the 19-year-old during Parma's most recent ​Serie A clash.


The Italian outlet state that Juventus and Liverpool are keen on securing Kulusevski's future immediately for next summer, ahead of what will be an expected surge in his asking price. Added in the report is a claim that United have already submitted an offer of €25m, which was subsequently turned down by Atalanta president Antonio Percassi, who is seeking closer to €35m.


While the report doesn't state whether a bid has been lodged by the Reds, it would certainly fall under the bracket of peculiar should Jurgen Klopp's side take a considerably expensive punt on the Swede.

If the versatile midfielder is bought as a right-wing option, it would require an almighty upturn in form, and an equally immense drop in Mohamed Salah's form, to dislodge the Egyptian in the starting XI. Furthermore, the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Rhian Brewster would fall even further down the pecking order.

Currently on course for a maiden ​Premier League title, Liverpool's strength in depth will be tested to its limits. The Swede would certainly offer added reinforcement, but at such a hefty price, it would be a bizarre use of funds on Merseyside.
