José Mourinho Reveals Extent of Son Heung-min Hamstring Injury

José Mourinho has confirmed that Tottenham striker Son Heung-min will be out for 'a while' following a hamstring injury in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Son has begun the season in scintillating form, netting no less than four goals in his side's 5-2 win over Southampton last weekend. The South Korean international looked similarly impressive before being substituted halfway through the match, just after he rattled the crossbar with a fierce strike.

After the game, a frustrated Mourinho confirmed that the change was enforced, with Son picking up a knock.

"It's an injury," Mourinho said in post-match press conference (via the Mirror). "We'll have him out for a while. It's his hamstring."

News of Son's injury added insult to injury for Spurs, who were denied three points against the Magpies in controversial circumstances. Having completely dominated proceedings, their 1-0 lead was wiped by a 96th-minute penalty, the awarding of which once again sparked controversy about football's new handball law.

Andy Carroll's header struck an unsighted Eric Dier on the upper arm in the area, with referee Peter Bankes awarding a spot kick after intervention from VAR. Spurs players were raging at the decision with Harry Kane narrowly avoiding a red card for his part in the post-match remonstrations.

This latest controversy continues the trend of divisive handballs being awarded since the Premier League season began earlier this month.

The loss of Son comes at a terrible time for Mourinho as his side's fixture list is looking particularly congested over the next few weeks. Having already played three games in the last seven days, Mourinho's side host Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, before taking on Maccabi Haifa in the Europa League playoffs on Thursday. Son will likely also miss out on Tottenham's trip to Old Trafford next Sunday.
