Joel Pereira Joins Huddersfield Town on Loan From Manchester United

Huddersfield Town have completed the loan signing of Joel Pereira from Manchester United, with the goalkeeper joining for the 2020/21 campaign.

Pereira spent the 2019/20 season on loan with Hearts, but failed to make much of an impression. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer well stocked in the goalkeeping department at this moment in time, it appeared as though the 24-year-old would either be offloaded on a temporary or permanent basis this summer.

The shot-stopper will now join Huddersfield Town for the 2020/21 season as he looks to gain valuable first team minutes, with the Championship club confirming the news on their official website. Pereira's contract with Man Utd comes to an end in the summer of 2021, so he will be desperate to make an impression in the upcoming campaign.

Huddersfield's head coach Carlos Corberán was keen to share his delight regarding the move, explaining that Pereira has all the qualities needed to challenge for a starting spot.

He said: “Joel Pereira is a player that covers all the demands we have from our goalkeepers. In terms of his reflexes, domination of the box, covering spaces and distribution of the play – all of these abilities are something that aren’t easy to find in a ‘keeper.

“For me it’s a very positive reaction from the Club, in terms of getting a replacement from Ryan Schofield’s injury. We are looking forward to working with players with potential that allow us to grow as a club.”

Man Utd have also confirmed his departure for the upcoming season. The goalkeeper has only ever made three senior appearances for the Red Devils, the last coming back in September of 2017. Pereira - who joined United back in 2015 - will now depart for his sixth spell away from Old Trafford.

This comes after Dean Henderson recently signed a new long-term deal at the club to make competition for places in the goalkeeping department even tougher. Current second-choice Sergio Romero has also been linked with a move away in recent times.

Pereira will join Tahith Chong and Matej Kovar in heading out on loan, while James Garner and Dylan Levitt could also make temporary moves away as they go in search of greater first team opportunities.
