Tottenham striker Harry Kane has hinted at a desire to play with Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, labelling the Belgian maestro as a ‘striker’s dream’ and believing he would score even more goals than he would now if they were on the same team.
Manchester City are one of the Premier League clubs showing serious interest in signing Kane since it became clear that he wishes to leave Tottenham this summer, alongside both Manchester United and Chelsea.
Spurs are determined not to sell but Kane has grown increasingly frustrated by the club’s failures to match his own ambitions to win trophies at the highest level.
His public admiration of De Bruyne, who equalled the Premier League single season record for assists in 2019/20 with 20 and was among the main contenders to be named FWA Footballer of the Year for 2021, will only fuel speculation that Kane wishes to join City.
Asked by Gary Neville on The Overlap YouTube channel about which Premier League player he thinks would help him score more goals, Kane had no hesitation in naming De Bruyne.
“De Bruyne for sure,” he said.
“When I watch De Bruyne play he’s a special, special player and some of the balls I see him put in for City are just a striker’s dream if I’m honest,” the England skipper added. “He’s an outstanding player with the ball, off the ball, pressing, but his delivery is as good as I’ve ever seen to be honest.”
Earlier in the interview, Kane expressed his intention to score more goals and improve to a greater level than that which he has already been at so far in his career.
“For me, I don’t want to come to the end of my career and have any regrets so I want to be the best that I can be,” he explained.
“I’ve said before, I never say I’d stay at spurs for the rest of my career…I’d never say I’d leave Spurs, [but] I’m at that stage where people may say, ‘He’s desperate for trophies, he needs the trophies’.
“I still feel like I’ve got almost another career to play. I’ve got seven or eight years, kind of what I’ve had so far in the Premier League. I’m not rushing anything, I’m not desperate to do anything but I just want to be the best version of me.
“I feel like for sure, I’ve still got so much more to give, I can be even better than what I’ve been, I can produce better numbers than what I’m producing at the moment.”
