Dele Alli Omitted From Tottenham Squad for Carabao Cup Tie With Chelsea

Dele Alli has again been left out of Tottenham's squad for the Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea on Tuesday evening.

Dele has started just one of Spurs' three Premier League games so far in 2019/20, playing the first 45 minutes of the clash with Everton on the opening weekend before being taken off at half time.

While the 24-year-old did feature for Spurs in the Europa League tussle with Shkendija recently, he has not even made the substitutes bench for his side's last two Premier League games.

Indeed, Dele was most recently omitted from the matchday squad for the game against Newcastle on Sunday - but Mourinho was expected to rotate his team for the Carabao Cup match on Tuesday with Tottenham back in European action on Thursday. However, the Telegraph report that the England international has once again been left out of the squad for the match against Chelsea.

Despite the fact that Mourinho is expected to make changes, he has seemingly decided not to offer Dele the chance to prove his worth in the cup game. It remains to be seen whether Mourinho will turn to him for Thursday's match against Maccabi Haifa.

Dele's lack of inclusion in Mourinho's plans recently has understandably led to speculation regarding his future at the club. Paris Saint-Germain have shown an interest in taking him on loan for the 2020/21 campaign, with Dele himself also said to be keen on making the switch.

But Mourinho claimed last week that he's 'convinced' the player will not be going anywhere this summer. Mourinho has, of course, looked to make an example out of players in the past with the hope of seeing them raise their games to the next level and showing the necessary hunger and commitment. Indeed, a similar approach has been taken with Tanguy Ndombele.

But the midfielder is now beginning to prove his worth, with Mourinho even openly praising him for his turnaround. The former Lyon man is now providing the template for Dele to revive his Spurs career under Mourinho, but he so far seemingly hasn't done enough to even warrant a place in the matchday squad.

The decision to overlook him for the Carabao Cup game will only further frustrate Dele and raise further questions with regards to his future.
