Southampton striker Danny Ings is set to commit his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract.
The 28-year-old, who has made an excellent start to the season, was the subject of a bid from Jose Mourinho's Tottenham during the summer transfer window.
However, the former Liverpool forward now appears close to ending the speculation surrounding his future by signing a fresh deal on the south coast, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.
Talks are continuing between the club and the player's representatives over details such as the length of the new deal and whether or not a release clause will be included.
Ralph Hasenhuttl was keen to extend the current three-year deal Ings signed in 2019 after stating his star striker had "zero interest" in leaving St Mary's over the summer.
Ings was in fine form throughout the 2019/20 campaign, bagging 22 Premier League goals in 38 appearances, just one shy of Jamie Vardy's Golden Boot winning total. The England international has picked up where he left off in the current campaign, having scored five times in eight games so far this season for club and country, including four in just five top-flight matches.
The former Burnley hit-man initially joined Southampton on loan following his injury-laden spell in Merseyside but impressed enough for the Saints' hierarchy to part with £20m for his services on a permanent basis after bagging eight goals and providing three assists in all competitions.
Ings picked up his third Three Lions cap against Wales during the latest international break and marked the occasion with his first goal for his country. He has competition for a spot up front, with Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin among those who have started the new campaign in fine fashion, but a similar season of goalscoring should see Ings on the plane for Euro 2020 next summer.
