Callum Wilson Names the Four 'Tricky' Newcastle Players Who Have Impressed Him

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson has named four players from his new squad he previously found 'tricky' to play against.

The England international recently made the £20m move to St James' Park after six years at Bournemouth, where he scored 41 Premier League goals.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: "I looked at the squad before I signed. Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie.the list goes on. I noticed there’s so many tricky players that can create chances and assists for me.

“I’ve had great partnerships with Fraser & Ritchie at Bournemouth. It made sense.”

Ryan Fraser and Jamal Lewis have also joined the Magpies in what has been a series of impressive signings for Steve Bruce's side.

The club were in the market for a striker during last summer's transfer window before settling on the signing of Joelinton for £40m. However, the Brazilian only found the back of the net twice in the Premier League last campaign, leaving Bruce on the hunt for another source of goals.

With Wilson available this summer following the Cherries' relegation from the top flight, the striker revealed he spoke to Newcastle legend Alan Shearer before completing the move.

Speaking to NUFC TV, he said: "It was really encouraging to hear it from such a legend. It was out of the blue, the text message, as well, so I was quite surprised, but I was so appreciative.

"We kept in touch - Shearer messaged me when I got a call-up for England and we've also been in touch about me coming here.

"I asked a few questions - what's it like around the town and things like that - and he had nothing but praise for the football club and for the place. It was already in my mind I was coming here, but that just nailed it on, it was concrete."

Newcastle begin their new Premier League campaign away to West Ham on Saturday 12 September.
