Bruno Fernandes admits Man Utd 'not good enough to wear shirt' against Brighton

Bruno Fernandes has confessed that he echoes feelings from Manchester United supporters that the squad were not worthy of wearing the shirt in Saturday's 4-0 defeat to Brighton.

United's Champions League hopes were mathematically ended in emphatic fashion as goals from Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard had Brighton four goals ahead on the hour mark.

After the last goal went in, cries of 'You're not fit to wear the shirt' echoed from the United end of the Amex Stadium, before the players faced the same chant as they went over to the fans to thank them after the match.

"I include myself in that. What we did today, what I did today, was not enough to be in a Man Utd shirt and I accept it," Fernandes told Sky Sports after the match.

"The result is what it is. It is not good enough. They outplayed us. They always had a solution. Pressed us better and they deserved the result.

"A little bit of everything [went wrong]. Quality. Mentality. They deserved to win, and we deserve to be in the position we are in now.

"It's something that we have to look at and be embarrassed about because that was not good enough from us and we have to do much better."

The result means United are guaranteed to record their lowest points total of the Premier League area, while they have also conceded more goals this season than in any campaign since 1992.
