Brentford 1-2 Leicester: Player ratings as Foxes steal the three points

24 October 2021 18:01

From Brentford Community Stadium - Brentford were made to pay for wasting their chances as Leicester ran out 2-1 winners in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Bees were superior in almost every aspect but the Foxes stood firm to sneak away with all three points.

Christian Norgaard nearly scored a last minute overhead kick last week against Chelsea, and came close to doing so in the second minute here, but Kasper Schmeichel was equal to the acrobatics.

Ivan Toney had a fourth goal this season disallowed as he was judged to be offside from Rico Henry's low cross to the back post. The towering striker then turned provider for Bryan Mbeumo, but his shot went just wide of Schmeichel's goal as the Bees maintained their early dominance.

Youri Tielemans gave Leicester the lead against the run of play. James Maddison's free-kick into the box was easily cleared by Henry, but the ball fell kindly to the Belgium international on the edfge of the area and he rifled one into the top corner.

Schmeichel was again at Leicester's rescue to deny Toney and the Bees went into half-time a goal down.

Maddison stung the palms of David Raya and Toney was thwarted by Schmeichel once more shortly after the break, and Brentford found a deserved equaliser on the hour mark after Zanka headed home from Mathias Jensen's corner.

Leicester re-took the lead on the break 15 minutes from time on the break as Maddison - the pantomime villain of the day - rolled the ball past Raya after being teed up by Patson Daka.

Brentford were unable to cause Leicester as many problems as they did for Chelsea at the end of their meeting last week, and Brendan Rodgers' side escaped with the win.
