Bernardo Silva discusses Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to join Man Utd instead of Man City

Bernardo Silva has insisted that it was a good decision for Cristiano Ronaldo to rejoin Manchester United despite coming close to signing for Manchester City this summer.

Ronaldo completed a move back to United on deadline day, though City were also in the running for his signature late in the transfer window.

But Silva says that the move back to Old Trafford was good for Ronaldo because of his history with the Red Devils, and claimed that City weren't heartbroken by his decision.

"It's a good move for him. We weren't [saying 'oh no']. It's his choice and a good move for him," Silva said, via the Manchester Evening News.

"He played at Man United when he was younger and it's nice, almost at the end - I don't know when he is going to finish - to go back to Man United.

"Hopefully we can beat him. We are going to work very hard to beat him."

Ronaldo scored a brace in a 4-1 win at home to Newcastle on his second United debut in September, and while he's been among the goals since his return, the team's form has dipped.

United have won just one of their last four games in all competitions and have slipped to fourth place in the Premier League. They face Leicester City this Sunday as they try to get their season back on track, but head to the King Power Stadium without either Harry Maguire or Raphael Varane.

City, meanwhile, have recovered after an early-season slump, beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and were unfortunate to only pick up a point at Liverpool before the international break.

United and City's first meeting this season will be on 6 November at Old Trafford.
