Aston Villa have confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Norwich over the signing of Argentine play-maker Emiliano Buendia, who was named 2020/21 Championship player of the season as he helped the Canaries back into the Premier League.
Buendia is currently part of a bio-secure bubble with Argentina ahead of this week’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia. He will undergo a Villa medical and formally complete the high-profile transfer after that game.
Villa have beaten Arsenal to the 24-year-old’s signature, despite the Gunners being confident that a deal could be done until Saturday evening when Dean Smith's side stormed ahead.
The transfer agreement is thought to be worth an initial £33m, inflated further by add-ons. It is both a club record for Villa, surpassing the initial £28m they paid to sign Ollie Watkins from Brentford last summer, and a biggest ever sale for Norwich. For more from Jamie Spencer, follow him on Twitter and Facebook!
