FT:Liverpool 1-1 Wigan: There is the final whistle and the home fans are not impressed as their team are punished for failing to put Wigan away as the visitors possibly ended Liverpool's title hopes.

90
Yellow Card

Fernando Torres picks up a very late yellow card for a tackle from behind as the frustration shows.

90

Valencia whips in a low near post cross that Reina does well t grab with Marcus Bent only inches away.

89

If Wigan hold on it will be their first points against any of the top four since their promotion to the Premier League.

87
Substitution

Another change for Liverpool as the rather ineffective Jermaine Pennant is replaced by Dirk Kuyt.

84
Substitution

Meanwhile Wigan take off Emile Heskey who has worked hard on his comeback with Antoine Sibierski replacing him.

84
Substitution

Liverpool are making an attacking change as Mascherano is off to be replaced by Crouch.

83

Suddenly the game is alive at both ends as Valencia and Brown are denied by Reina before Torres and Benayou are thwarted by Kirkland.

80
Goal

GOAL:Liverpool 1-1 Wigan: (80mins) But there is a turn up for the books! Titus Bramble lashes his second goal in two games after Liverpool fail to clear a Wigan corner.

79
Substitution

Ryan Taylor is going off for Wigan with Jason Koumas returning from injury in his place.

79

Liverpool have looked very sloppy today, possibly down to this fixture coming at the end of the bust festive schedule, but to be fair they haven't really been troubled so far.

78
Yellow Card

Javier Mascherano has been booked for a tackle on Marcus Bent as Wigan press a little.

75
Substitution

Harry Kewell has got more vital minutes under his belt but he is now replaced by Yossi Benayoun.

73

Liverpool haven't really pressed since getting that goal and although they look relatively comfortable a second would not a go a miss for them.

70

Ryan Taylor with pretty much Wigan's firdt effort of the half tries a left footer from the corner of the box but he drags it a little wide of Reina's post.

68

Someone from either side needs to get the ball down and play a pass along the floor as both sides have got a little frantic and game is not flowing as it could.

65

Wigan are now exerting a bit of pressure of their own with Melchiot taking a few throws but they don't really get too far into dangerous positions.

61

Liverpool have really stepped up their game a few levels since the break and Gerrard lets off a rasping shot from 25 yards that Kirkland does superbly to tip wide.

59
Yellow Card

Paul Scharner picks up the game's first yellow card as he scythes down Mascherano.

57

Wigan are going to need to change their system a little if they are going to force a way back into it - although pushing too hard too soon could be costly.

54

Liverpool are swarming all over Wigan now that goal has released the tension and Aurelio hits two long range blasts that both angle just wide.

50
Goal

GOAL:Liverpool 1-0 Wigan: (50mins) There is the opening goal for the home side as Fernando Torres places home Finnan's low cross from the right hand side. Will that open the flood gates?

48

Not much to say about the play since the restart with a few throw ins and goal kicks by Kirkland pretty much all that has happened.

Second half

The sides are unchanged as the second half begins with Liverpool facing 45 very important minutes because if they don't take all the points then their title challenge will in all probability be over.

45

Rafa Benitez might make changes at the break and he has options with Crouch and Kuyt to change the dynamic but Steve Bruce will probably keep things as they are as his side have looked pretty solid.

Half time

HT:Liverpool 0-0 Wigan: Liverpool have probably been the better side but Wigan have worked hard to stop them creating any real clearcut goalscoring opportunites.

42

After that earlier burst of activity Torres has been a little quiet again but he gets a headed opportunity now from Alonso's free-kick but he only finds the crowd behind the goal.

40

Steve Bruce will be really pleased with his side and if they can hold out until the break then Benitez will have work to do to change things.

37

Luis Antonio Valencia meanwhile is - in the absence of Jason Koumas - Wigan's biggest creator and he tries his luck from the edge of the box but drills it just wide of the post.

35

Michael Brown is someone people don't enjoy playing against and the Wigan man is making life tough for Alonso and Mascherano in particular so far.

32

Fabio Aurelio gets an earful from Carragher for having a go at goal from a 40-yard free kick that he curls straight into Kirkland's hands after the Liverpool captain had made his way up from the back.

29

Wigan actually look pretty decent on the break with Heskey and bent both prepared to chase lost causes - but that could be their downfall because committing men forward opens up gaps.

25

Gerrard hasn't been involved all that often but he is now as he collects Pennant's chipped cross and fires a half volley straight at Kirkland.

22

Mascherano striding forward a little uncharacteristically before playing a delightful one-two with Torres but when well placed he fires straight at Kirkland.

21

Harry Kewell is enjoying a resurgence of late and he shows his growing confidence with some clever touches before trying a shot that is blocked by two defenders and cleared.

18

However, Wigan keep the ball around the area after a corner and it eventually drops to Brown who unleashes a superb volley with his weaker foot that has Reina scrambling as it curls just a fraction wide.

17

Liverpool have upped the tempo in the last few moments and their attacks suddenly have some fluidity and fluency - Wigan need to address this or they could be in trouble.

14

And now he has the ball in the net - unfortunately for Torres he was offside when Gerrard flicked it through but that was a very dangerous sign for the visitors.

13

For the first time the Spaniard gets the chance to use his pace and trickery to take on three Wigan defenders and is eventually denied by Kilbane just before pulling the trigger - but it is a corner, that Liverpool waste.

11

The home side have not started all that quickly and Torres has so far looked a touch isolated.

8

Ryan Taylor has scored or made both of Wigan's in the games with Newcastle and Villa and he tries his luck with a dead ball from the right channel but Reina makes a decent stop.

6

Liverpool are enjoying all of the early pressure and it appears that - certainly so far - Heskey is being asked to play on the left of a five-man midfield.

3

The first real bit of danger from Liverpool as Steve Finnan bends one in from the right but Heskey of all people is there to block the cross.
