Burnley lead Dawson chase

Speculation this morning suggests Burnley lead the way, ahead of both Middlesbrough and Ipswich, for Rochdale defender Craig Dawson. Dawson, who has handed in two transfer requests this summer, didn't feature in Rochdale's game on Saturday and that has fuelled speculation that he's ready to move from Spotland to Turf Moor.Manager Keith Hill passed it off as him resting the player, but it was otherwise a full strength Rochdale side that drew with Bradford City.Middlesbrough had an offer of £400,000 for turned down in May and that led to the 20-year-old Dawson, who was signed from Radcliffe Borough in 2009, hitting newly promoted 'Dale with the transfer requests, both of which were turned down.Gordon Strachan retains an interest whilst it is thought Ipswich could be ready to make an offer much closer to Rochdale's valuation of £1 million. However, the player would prefer to stay in the North West which means Burnley would have a head start over either of the other two clubs. He hasn't been linked with Burnley during the summer, but this morning's speculation reported in the Manchester Evening News, suggests a move could be very much on the cards.
