Gillespie wants to teach Pommie bowlers

A week after rubbishing their Ashes chances as next to nil, England baiter Jason Gillespie has said he wants a job with employees he has no faith in. Gillespie is making an inimitable bid for the England coaching job it seems.

Other contenders mentioned for the role in the English press include South African Allan Donald and Darren Gough. But Gillespie, currently completing his level three coaching certificate, laughed he may have shot himself in the foot

"It's quite funny only a week ago I was quoted saying that Australia would definitely win the Ashes, so I don't know if I'd be in the running for the job," he said. I was asked what I thought and Australia had just thumped the West Indies and Pakistan and also beaten England 5-0 in Australia last time around, that's where I was coming from. It's hilarious, but at the end of the day what's good is the Ashes are being spoken about nine months out."

Gillespie and former Australian Test teammate Michael Kasprowicz have reportedly been short-listed to replace Ottis Gibson as England's pace mentor. Gibson has left the post for his new job as West Indies head coach, taking the reins from David Williams following the 2-0 Test series loss to Australia.

Gillespie and Kasprowicz were last involved in an Ashes battle when they played in the 2005 series loss in England. "I haven't been approached but I'd certainly listen if approached, If it comes to it I'd send my resume off. It would be something I'd be interested in. It would be a very good job, bowling coach to work with England's bowlers, you would think there would be a lot of very good candidates."

Kasprowicz, who retired from first-class cricket at the same time as Gillespie two years ago, is currently in demand as a television commentator. The Queenslander is set to commentate during the Indian Premier League from next month after impressing on the sub-continent during Australia's seven-match one-day series in India late last year
