Alloa 1-0 Airdrie Utd: Report

09 April 2011 19:14
McGowan boosts Alloa Alloa eased their relegation fears as Michael McGowan's first-half strike gave them a 1-0 home win over 10-man Airdrie. McGowan netted after 18 minutes, taking William Gibson's pass before converting his third goal in two games from just inside the penalty area. Kurtis Byrne nearly doubled the lead two minutes later but he shot wide from close range. Ryan McCord's early lob that went over was Airdrie's best first-half chance and a disappointing opening period was compounded in injury time when Grant Smith was sent-off for a professional foul. However, they did have opportunities for a second-half leveller and almost claimed a share of the spoils in the 90th minute when Nathan Taggart's effort was brilliantly saved by Mark Ridgers.
