Rotherham 1-0 Aldershot: Match Report

11 December 2010 23:16
Le Fondre shoots down Shots Rotherham finally got back to winning ways at home with a 1-0 victory over Aldershot. After a shaky start, Rotherham just about deserved their half-time lead - but they were aided by Aldershot's third penalty miss of the season. Ben Harding brought a great save out of Rotherham goalkeeper Andy Warrington after just six minutes, but Aldershot were awarded a very dubious penalty for Tom Newey's challenge on Ben Herd with 29 minutes gone. Wade Small's shot sent Warrington the wrong way but the ball hit the upright and rebounded to safety. All the Rotherham threat was coming down the right through Marcus Marshall and he set up chances for Johnny Mullins, Ryan Taylor and Adam Le Fondre before Rotherham did find the net in the 40th minute. Marshall's cross went right across the six-yard box to Le Fondre who slammed his 17th goal of the season into the roof of the net. Seven minutes after the break Jamie Young saved Aldershot with two magnificent saves in less than a minute, the first from Nick Fenton and the second from Ryan Cresswell's shot. Aldershot tried to up the tempo when Rotherham lost skipper Cresswell to injury after 65 minutes, but their challenge ended when Jamie Vincent was sent off three minutes from time for his second yellow card - both for fouls on Marshall.
