50 players to watch at the World Cup - No 42 Roque Santa Cruz

14 April 2010 13:28

We continue our build-up to the World Cup with a look at Paraguay's Premier League hitman, Roque Santa Cruz.

Name: Roque Santa Cruz

Age: 28

Club: Manchester City

International caps: 66

International goals: 20

Santa Cruz joined Bayern Munich in 1999, and spent eight up-and-down years in Germany struggling to hold down a first-team place.

In 2007 Blackburn Rovers paid £3.5 million to bring him to the Premier League, where he made an instant impact. Santa Cruz scored 23 goals in 58 appearances for Rovers, before being lured to join Manchester City's revolution in June last year for £17.5 million.

Injuries have frustrated his debut season at Eastlands, however, and he's fallen a long way short of justifying his transfer fee.

Santa Cruz made his bow on the international stage aged 17, and has scored 20 goals in 66 appearances.
