06 July 2010 06:58
Manchester United are plotting a £25 million raid for Inter Milan and Netherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder, according to an exclusive report in the Mirror.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson sees Sneijder as the ideal long-term replacement for Paul Scholes, and has told the Old Trafford board to make him their number one priority.

Sneijder has been one of the stars of the World Cup and will lead his Dutch side out against Uruguay in the first semi-final this evening.

In Italy, new Inter Milan gaffer Rafa Benitez is reportedly chasing Liverpool's Glen Johnson and Tottenham's Gareth Bale, as possible replacements for Maicon (Daily Mail).

The rampaging Brazilian wideman looks destined to join Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.

Finally, Jermaine Pennant is apparently being offered to West Ham and Wigan by Real Zaragoza. Wolves have already politely declined (Daily Mail).
