Manager reaction - Ferguson hits out at Anfield referee

All the manager reaction following a riproaring Sunday of action in the Premier League, which saw Liverpool respond to mounting criticism with a 2-0 defeat of champions Manchester United at Anfield.

Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United

Rafa Benitez: "I have not read the papers too much. I was focused on the things we could control - the training sessions and mentality of the players of players. I am really pleased but not just for me - for the players and the fans."

Alex Ferguson: "All in all Liverpool were the better team but I think it affected our players and the referee. There were so many controversial things that happened we have to feel aggrieved at some of them."

Manchester City 2-2 Fulham

Mark Hughes: "We're disappointed because in that situation we should see the game out. We haven't done our jobs defensively, we knew the threat Dempsey posed at set pieces. Credit to Fulham, they are organised and made the game difficult for us."

Roy Hodgson: "After their goals we got ourselves back on track and started playing how we had for the 60 minutes. We have players injured at the moment so it was a sterling effort for the players to earn a point. We battled hard against a good side, defended well throughout, and the character of the team is outstanding."

Bolton 3-2 Everton

Gary Megson: "We asked the players to start at a high tempo and catch them on the back foot, and they did it. But we've also got that quality to keep going - we score quite a few goals late on. At 2-2, we lost the momentum and Everton gained it. But Ivan is a terrific finisher, he's got a great left foot."

David Moyes: "We worked very hard to get back in the game, but we should never have got ourselves in that position in the first place. We seemed to run out of steam in the last 20 minutes, but we were poor at the back today and it cost us."

West Ham 2-2 Arsenal

Gianfranco Zola: "Never say never. The reaction surprised me because it was looking pretty bad for us. But at half-time we had a chat and and said the only way to react is to fight to the end. They did and it turned out to be a great point for us - it feels like a victory."

Arsene Wenger: "It's very sickening because it doesn't reflect the quality of our game. We need to learn from our mistakes and the quicker the better."
