English football was dominated by Merseyside in the mid-80s, with Everton winning the title in 1985 and 87, but it was the battle between the two in 86 that is still remembered.

Everton had lead the league for the majority of the season, with the fiercest challenge coming from West Ham.

Liverpool hit form in spectacular fashion by winning 8 of the last 9 games and were in poll position on the final day of the season.

The Toffees did what they had too, a 6-1 thumping of Southampton gave them a chance.

At Stamford Bridge, Liverpool only need a draw with Chelsea to take the prize, but a Kenny Dalglish volley ensured they took all three.

A Liverpool triumph in the FA Cup final gave them a double win over their rivals.
