Park started his senior career in Japan, before signing for Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in 2003.
Guus Hiddink was the manager of PSV at the time, and had built a relationship with Park during his time as South Korean national coach, taking in the 2002 World Cup finals.
Park was a first-team regular at PSV and played his part in taking the side to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2005. He scored in the first leg victory over AC Milan, but his team were knocked at the San Siro.
Manchester United paid £4 million to take him to Old Trafford soon after that defeat, where his reputation has continued to grow.
Park became the first Asian player to feature in a Champions League final last May against Barcelona, and has collected three Premier League winners' medals and counting at United.
On the international stage, he has amassed an impressive 85 caps and is sure to play a key role when Korea Republic take on Argentina, Greece and Nigeria in Group B this summer.
