Fulham manager Mark Hughes is hoping to complete the signing of Mexico left-back Carlos Salcido before the transfer window closes.
Reports stated that Fulham have agreed a fee with PSV Eindhoven for the 30-year-old, who played at this summer's World Cup.
"We have made enquiries," said Hughes. "He is a player I am interested in and we are hopeful it might be concluded."
Hughes insisted their pursuit of Salcido does not automatically mean that Fulham's current left-back Paul Konchesky will be on the move.
Konchesky has been linked with a move to Liverpool, where he would link up again with former Fulham manager Roy Hodgson.
"We are looking to have quality in all positions. Left back is a position we are a little light in," said Hughes.
"It is not a foregone conclusion that Paul Konchesky goes because we are looking to bring someone else in."
