Peterborough United have sent a clear message to any clubs interested in pinching top scorer Ivan Toney, by demanding a record-breaking price for the prolific striker ahead of the January transfer window.

Burnley and Bournemouth are reportedly interested in bringing the 23-year-old to the Premier League, but they will have to fork out for the League One forward.

A whole host of Championship clubs are also interested in the Posh striker, but chairman Darragh MacAntony has warned that whoever signs Toney must break the League One transfer record to get him.

He is quoted as saying: "Toney will break the transfer record for a League One player when he goes. If he goes that. He'll certainly smash the Posh record.

"We don't want to lose anyone in January, but you can't guarantee anything in football.

"If we do lose anyone, they will be replaced."

While the current transfer record for a League One player stands at sub-£10m, The Sun claim that Peterborough will ask for £13m for their star forward.

Toney has scored 35 goals in 75 appearances for Peterborough, after joining the club from Newcastle United in a deal worth £350,000 in 2018. He has already bagged 12 goals this season and has propelled Posh to third in the table, and they'll be desperate to hold on to their star striker beyond January.

The forward has also caught the eye of MiddlesbroughCardiffDerby County and Bristol City in the Championship.

The Sun's report also names Premier League duo Bournemouth and Burnley as suitors. The two top-flight clubs have made solid starts to the new Premier League season, sitting ninth and tenth in the table going into the international break.

Peterborough have a history of unearthing exciting attacking talents, having sold Dwight Gayle for £6.5m to Crystal Palace and Britt Assombalonga for £5.5m to Nottingham Forest.
