Man Utd make improved second offer for Jadon Sancho

Manchester United have made an improved second offer for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho worth more than the £75m opening bid that was turned down by the Bundesliga side.

United have had their eye firmly on Sancho since late 2019 to fill a problem position on the right flank. But while the two clubs were unable to agree on a price last summer as talks dragged into an impassable stalemate, there has been far greater optimism a deal will be struck this time.

90min first reported United’s willingness to agree a package worth £75m back in mid-May. An opening offer when it came in June was estimated to be worth £67m with a further £8m in add-ons, but it was rejected by Dortmund, who are holding out for a greater guaranteed up-front fee.

Throughout the 2021 talks, the proposed payment structure of the deal is thought to have been the key part of the ongoing negotiations. Now, Sky Sports adds that a second bid worth ‘more than £75m’ and with a larger up-front fee has been made. Dortmund are considering that offer.

A report from Germany earlier this month stated that the asking price for Sancho, which has fallen dramatically since it was quoted at €120m a year ago, is €90m. That equates to around £77.3m, which suggests the two clubs are really not too far apart at all.

United have never wavered in their pursuit of Sancho, despite the 21-year-old briefly losing form at the start of the 2020/21 campaign. They have remained impressed with his attitude and maturity throughout the saga as he has always remained respectful to both sides of the table.

The overwhelming sentiment surrounding the talks this year is that United and Dortmund are both hopeful and optimistic of being able to reach an agreement, which in itself is a major step forward from this time last year when there was no real progress for months.
