Lyon vs West Ham: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

13 April 2022 14:30

West Ham travel to the Groupama Stadium on Thursday to face Lyon in the second leg of the pair's Europa League quarter-final meeting.

Last Thursday the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium, with Aaron Cresswell controversially shown a red card on the stroke of half-time. Despite this blow, the Hammers opened the scoring just after the break through Jarrod Bowen before Tanguy Ndombele levelled it.

Since then, West Ham have limped to a 2-0 defeat to Brentford in the Premier League, while Lyon drew 1-1 with high-flying Strasbourg at the weekend.

Here is everything you need to know about what is now one of the biggest games in West Ham's modern history...

Lyon team news

Lyon are sweating over the fitness of three key players – goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, as well as midfield pair Tanguy Ndombele and Houssem Aouar – who were all forced off with injuries at the weekend.

This is not coach Peter Bosz's only concern either. Maxence Caqueret and Thiago Mendes are doubts too. Meanwhile, Ryana Cherki, Lenny Pinto and Sinaly Diomande will also play no part.

West Ham team news

West Ham have already confirmed that Kurt Zouma will miss out here through an ankle injury he suffered during their defeat to Brentford. Angelo Ogbonna will not be able to replace him either as he is still rehabbing a knee problem.

The Hammers' defensive issues are compounded by the absence of Aaron Cresswell who saw red in the first leg. Mark Noble has been suffering from illness and is also a doubt.

Lyon vs West Ham score prediction

This is a tough one to call. Both teams go into the game with several key players out through injury or suspension, giving each manager a couple of big selection calls to make.

Lyon have had a thoroughly underwhelming domestic campaign, but they have seemed to raise their game whenever the Europa League rolls around. Meanwhile, West Ham's thin squad looks increasingly knackered as it nears the end of an exhausting campaign.

This one seems unlikely to be a stone-cold classic but there should be plenty of drama with David Moyes' boys eventually booking their place in the semi-finals.

Prediction: Lyon 1-2 West Ham (AET)
