Leicester City have made contact with Real Betis over a potential move for midfielder William Carvalho, according to a report.

Portugal international Carvalho has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, even before he signed with the La Liga side in 2018, but could finally get his move to the English top flight this summer if Leicester can conclude a deal.

According to a report from A Bola, the Foxes have already made contact with Betis about a summer move, but face competition from AS Monaco, who have also registered their interest in the 27-year-old.

The report further explains that there is a €30m asking price attached to Carvalho, but it is believed that a deal could be completed for a fee closer to €25m. His former club Sporting CP would receive just over €6m from a deal at that price.

Leicester currently sit in third place in the Premier League, and despite the uncertainty due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, they look set to qualify for next season's Champions League as things stand.

With the longstanding speculation linking Carvalho with a Premier League switch, the consensus is that Leicester would be more likely to land him than Monaco.

The midfielder so far has 59 caps for the Portugal national team, and a move to the Foxes would see him link up with fellow Portuguese international Ricardo Pereira. Carvalho was a part of the squad that won the 2016 European Championships and the 2018/19 Nations League.

While it remains unclear exactly how the coronavirus will affect the summer transfer window, clubs are continuing to plan as normal where possible.

In the past few weeks it has been reported that Brendan Rogers has been interested in a reunion with midfielder and Barcelona outcast Philippe Coutinho in the summer, although it is believed that a deal to bring him to the King Power stadium is unlikely due to financial restraints.

Foxes fans will hope to see football return soon, in order to find out their European fate. This will likely have a significant effect on how they conduct their transfer business come the end of the current season, whenever that may be.
