Leicester 4-2 Burnley: Player Ratings as Foxes Win Six Goal Thriller

20 September 2020 22:58

Leicester made it two wins from their first two Premier League games by beating Burnley 4-2 on Sunday evening.

The game got off to an exciting start with Chris Wood putting the visitors in front early on, before Harvey Barnes' scrappy finish levelled things up in the 20th minute.

After the break, an Erik Pieters own goal and a first Foxes strike for James Justin gave the hosts a two goal cushion, which was then trimmed by Jimmy Dunne's bizarre finish.

With Burnley in the ascendency, a Denis Praet wonder strike restored Leicester's advantage. Wood hit the post late on but 4-2 was how it finished.

Here's 90min player ratings for this six goal thriller...

LEICESTER

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Kasper Schmeichel (GK) - 7/10 - Wasn't the busiest of days for the Dane. Started a few Leicester attacks with some pinpoint passes.

Timothy Castagne (RB) - 8/10 -
Excellent once again, bombing forward relentlessly and not putting a foot wrong at the back. Filling the boots of the injured Ricardo Pereira superbly so far.

Wilfred Ndidi (CB) - 7/10 -
Shone in an unfamiliar centre-back berth. Maybe the Foxes can complete a full season with one fit centre-back? On second thought, maybe not.

Caglar Soyuncu (CB) - 7/10 -
An assured display from the Turk. Guided Ndidi through the game well.

James Justin (LB) - 7/10 -
Shrugged off too easily by Wood for the game's opener. Other than that, he was solid and took his goal well. Destined to be an FPL points magnet for the foreseeable future. He only costs £4.5m as well.

2. Midfielders

Nampalys Mendy (DM) - 7/10 - Kept things neat and tidy, occasionally interchanging with Ndidi at centre-back.

Youri Tielemans (CM) - 7/10 - His sumptuous, defence splitting pass led to Leicester's second goal.

Denis Praet (CM) - 8/10 - A couple of really impressive passes. Got forward constantly and whacked the ball impossibly hard into the back of the net to put the game to bed.

3. Forwards

Ayoze Perez (RW) - 6/10 - A few clumsy mistakes in possession. Will be interesting to see if he keeps his place once new signing Cengiz Under settles in.

Jamie Vardy (ST) - 7/10 - Typically industrious pressing and showed excellent composure to set up Leicester's equaliser. Did not have many chances of his own.

Harvey Barnes (LW) - 9/10 - A constant menace. The best attacking player on the pitch by some margin. If he could finish, he'd been properly dangerous.

4. Substitutes

James Maddison - 6/10

Marc Albrighton - N/A

BURNLEY

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Nick Pope (GK) - 7/10 - A couple of seriously impressive stops from the England number one in waiting. Commanded his area well.

Phil Bardsley (RB) - 5/10 -
Barnes caused him a lot of problems but gave as good as he got. Offered very little going forward.

Kevin Long (CB) - 6/10 -
Will be flattered to find out Martin Keown described him as 'young' on co-commentary. He's 30-years-old by the way, Martin. Performance was okay. Marshalled his young defensive partner well.

Jimmy Dunne (CB) - 6/10 -
Not the result he would have wanted on his Premier League debut. A real shame his goal could not be enjoyed by any Clarets fans inside the ground.

Charlie Taylor (LB) - 6/10 -
Couldn't do anything about the own goal. Offered a threat going forward and swung in a great cross for Wood's goal.

6. Midfielders

Dwight McNeil (RM) - 6/10 - Looked better after switching to the left-hand side just before the break. Worked incredibly hard but sometimes lacked an end product.

Josh Brownhill (CM) - 5/10 - Would have wanted to give his side more on the ball, but kept shape fairly well.

Ashley Westwood (CM) - 5/10 - A similarly meh performance. Struggled to keep Praet and Tielemans in check.

Robbie Brady (LM) - 5/10 - Lasted 40 minutes before being forced to withdraw due to injury.

7. Forwards

Chris Wood (ST) - 7/10 - Embarrassed Justin for the game's opening goal, a textbook example of old fashioned centre-forward play. So nearly got a second goal near the end as well.

Jay Rodriguez (ST) - 5/10 - Huffed and puffed all game but was not rewarded with many sights at goal. Was wasteful when presented with a few half-chances.

8. Substitutes

Erik Pieters - 5/10

Matej Vydra - N/A
