West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady has confirmed that currently eight first team players are in self-isolation after showing coronavirus symptoms.

With the current Premier League season brought to an inevitable halt by the pandemic, a wide range of Premier League managers and players have been affected by the virus.

Previously, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea's young starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi have both revealed they had tested positive for the virus, but as the West Ham case shows, there are no signs it is going to slow down any time soon.

While no players have been named, Brady explained in her Sun column: "I am relieved to say that they are all showing mild symptoms and, along with their families, seem to be well. But it is no more than a handshake, sneeze or cough away from any of us, so no one should be complacent."

Despite the growing spread and impact on the football world, the desire to resume the Premier League season has been at the forefront for many fans, players and teams.

As Brady explains "When we - all Prem clubs - last spoke, we agree to get going again as soon as possible. And that games will run into July, if required, to get this campaign finished."

Although Brady claims its a scenario to be avoided: "It may be games have to be played behind closed doors, which no one wants- especially the players and fans."

While this determination to revive the footballing season is both important it also somewhat worrying. As the debate as to how and when the Premier League season will resume rumbles on, the health of the players must be a high priority.

Hopefully the West Ham team will be fit and well when the season does start again, but it is crucial that they, nor others, are rushed back too soon.
