Jurgen Klopp Provides Injury Update on Alisson

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that goalkeeper Alisson suffered a shoulder injury in training prior to their 7-2 demolition by Aston Villa.

Deputy Adrian didn't cover himself in glory as Villa ran riot on Sunday night, but Klopp explained pre-game that an accident in training meant the Brazil stopper couldn't take part.

“Yesterday an incident in training, very unlucky – two players clash with each other, one gets up, one doesn’t. The one who didn’t get up was Ali,” Klopp told Sky Sports pre-match, via Liverpool's official website.

“So, after the first few things, we don’t know 100%. But he cannot play today. We have to do further assessment; but he’s injured, let me say it like this. Now we hope it will go really quickly.

“It’s an international break, I’m pretty sure after that he will not be ready. Then we have to see week by week.”

Alisson has missed significant time out due to injury while at Liverpool before. Last season, hip and calf problems ruled him out for around a third of the campaign. Adrian hasn't covered himself in glory in his absence - including in Sunday's defeat - but he wasn't the only party to blame for their capitulation at Villa Park.

Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara were ruled out after testing positive for coronavirus, while much of the team did little to cover themselves in glory as the Reds fell to one of their worst ever losses.

When asked about Mane, Klopp said: “He’s good, he’s good. We are obviously in contact pretty often. He is fine.

“Monday night, we played Arsenal, played a really good game, after the game it was a really good feeling. And then the problems started immediately. That’s how it is. That’s how life is, that’s how our life is as well, that’s completely normal."
