Huddersfield defender Florent Hadergjonaj could be set for an approach from Turkish club Fenerbahce, who will reportedly use the influence of a Kosovo international teammate to lure him to the Super Lig.
Hadergjonaj has featured in 12 of the Terriers' 19 Championship fixtures this season, including Saturday's 5-2 defeat to Bristol City, but the club could be open to the 25-year-old's exit.
Sporx claim that Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi's friendship with Kosovo teammate Hadergjonaj will be used to tempt him to Istanbul, as the club eye a long-term replacement for Mauricio Isla.
The Chilean right-back's contract is set to expire in 2020 and the Fenerbahce hierarchy have identified the Huddersfield man as a potential option. With his Huddersfield contract set to run until summer 2021, Danny Cowley might choose to cash in now - as opposed to Hadergjonaj running it down.
Despite a brief slump that has seen Fenerbahce win just one of their past four league fixtures, the club sit fifth and just five points from table-topping Sivasspor. A potential transfer would therefore see Hadergjonaj swapping the lower echelons of England's second tier for the upper reaches of Turkey's top flight.
With March's Euro 2020 play-offs presenting an opportunity for Kosovo to qualify for their first major tournament, regular first-team opportunities might be a concern for Hadergjonaj. An approach in January could see the full-back playing second fiddle to Isla and lacking minutes ahead of their crucial semi-final with North Macedonia.
Semi-final success would see Georgia or Belarus standing between Kosovo and a milestone moment, just three years after they became FIFA members. If they were to pull off the unthinkable, Kosovo could find themselves in group F and preparing to take on Germany, France and Portugal.
