O'Neill relief at Villa win

Martin O'Neill expressed his relief after Aston Villa ended their wait for a Premier League win with a 1-0 victory over Hull City. Villa had gone 10 league matches without picking up three points, but guaranteed European football for next season by beating the struggling Tigers.John Carew scored the only goal of the game in the first half, while Tigers keeper Boaz Myhill produced a superb reflex save to deny Gabriel Agbonlahor in the second period. The hosts also kept a clean sheet for the first time since the 2-0 success at Blackburn Rovers in early February and O'Neill was satisfied at the final whistle.Delighted"At the end it was relief that we'd won a game after a very lengthy spell without doing so, and joy for the fact we deserved to win the game," O'Neill told Sky Sports 1."I felt had we got the second goal, of course, we'd have been in a more comfortable position, but I'm delighted that we've won."I think, overall, we definitely deserved it and their goalkeeper's made an incredible save - he touched one over the bar."At 2-0, we could have breathed a sigh of relief. However, it's been a hectic year and quite some months."We've thrown away leads in the past against Stoke City, West Ham and tonight it was nice to keep the clean sheet, which is unusual for us."
