Carew relieved to see goal given

Carew's first-half strike clinched an automatic European spot for Aston Villa for the first time in 11 years and piled on more misery for the relegation-threatened Tigers at Villa Park. The Norwegian's goal was allowed by referee Mike Dean but there was some doubt as to whether he was offside, or just level, when he stuck out a boot to divert Ashley Young's low cross beyond Boaz Myhill. But Carew was in no doubt the correct decision had been made."It was very good, the referee made the right decision," said Carew of his 14th goal of the campaign."I wasn't sure but it was good to see it wasn't offside."It was a brilliant ball, I just had to put my foot on it."He added that Villa's fans should not be concerned that the win was only the club's first in 13 matches."It's definitely a good season. We improve each season, if we get fifth we have still improved on last season," he said. The three points moved Villa back into fifth spot and above Everton but more significantly they are now assured of participating in the revamped Europa League next season. And manager Martin O'Neill was delighted to see his side wrap up the win after having the best of the chances over the 90 minutes."It was relief at the end that we have won a game," O'Neill told Sky Sports 1."We deserved to win the game. Their goalkeeper has made one brilliant save."We've thrown away leads against Stoke and West Ham, and tonight it was nice to keep a clean sheet."
