Mancini admits City interest in Donovan

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed that he wants to bring USA forward Landon Donovan to Eastlands this summer. The 28-year-old United States forwaard spent a period on loan at Everton last season and proved a real hit in the Premier League. He is still contracted to Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles Galaxy, but the Italian has admitted that he is interested in his signature.Speaking in New York as City prepare to face Sporting Lisbon in a pre-season friendly on Friday, Mancini: "We will have to see. The market is open until the end of August. It could be, because Donovan is a good player."Donovan was one of the better players at the World Cup in South Africa, and the versatile front man also had an impressive spell on loan at Everton last season. However, City could have a hard time prising him away from the Los Angeles Galaxy, with Major League Soccer bosses making it clear they have no intention of selling the league's biggest homegrown name. The former Bayer Leverkusen star has been with the Galaxy since 2005, but during the American off-season he had a spell on loan at Bayern Munich in 2009 and with the Toffees last term.Donovan made 10 league appearances for the Merseyside outfit, and Mancini saw enough to catch his eye.City have already splashed the cash in the transfer market this summer with the signings of Yaya Toure, David Silva and Jerome Boateng.
