Cherries: Lyle desperate to make the most of a second chance

LYLE Taylor is determined to make it second time lucky with Cherries once he resumes his trial spell at Dean Court. Taylor has been a frustrated spectator since sustaining an ankle injury in the early stages of Cherries' opening friendly against Spurs. The 20-year-old striker was invited to join Cherries for pre-season after impressing boss Eddie Howe when he trained with the club in April. Released by Millwall at the end of the 2008-09 campaign, Taylor dropped into non-league and enjoyed a prolific season with Concord Rangers. His 34 goals helped the Canvey Island-based outfit win promotion to the Premier Division of the Ryman League. And his exploits also alerted Jason Tindall's contacts at West Ham who recommended the frontman to the Cherries assistant manager. Taylor was plucked by Millwall from the youth ranks at Staines Town and his displays earned him a professional contract with the Lions. However, despite spending a year at the Den which included a brief loan spell with Eastbourne Borough the youngster failed to make the breakthrough at the first time of asking. Taylor, an articulate and polite individual, told the Daily Echo: It was an experience that I will always remember, both for good and bad reasons. I wasn't able to break into the team but that's football. If you can't, you have to go somewhere else so I moved down a few levels. The manager at Concord gave me the freedom to express myself and it did me good. I have developed and matured as a player. I have been given an opportunity here and, hopefully, will be able to get somewhere. I felt good against Spurs. But I went to take a shot and, as I put my left foot down, my ankle crunched. It was an impact injury and you have just got to get on with it. I like it here. It's a lot like where I was last season. It is a tight-knit bunch and everyone is in it together. There is a single focus and everyone wants the same thing. Everyone is going to work hard to get there. Everyone has been really good to me coming in as an outsider. This is an important time for me because I would love to stay. Asked how Taylor's injury would affect his trial period, Howe replied: It doesn't change anything from our point of view. We like Lyle an awful lot so we will make every effort to get him back fit and see what happens. Taylor sprained the medial ligaments in his ankle and is around four weeks from returning to training.
