HATCHET MAN: Stoke and Wolves can do better than Everton misfit Van der Meyde

The transfer window may not be open yet but Wolves and Stoke have already   revealed how desperate they are for new players by considering moves for Andy van der Meyde. Even though Everton's Dutch midfielder will be available on a free transfer as his contract is about to run out, he would still be a waste of money. The signing on fee and wages for Van der Meyde (right) would bring no returnfrom a  player who has spent four years at Goodison Park falling outwith the manager and contributing little of worth. He has made just 12 starts in the Premier League in that time and seems to  have had as many injury and disciplinary issues. Vander Meyde denied rumours he had a drink problem and despite beingsigned   from Inter Milan, he never convinced David Moyes he was wortha long run in the   Everton team. Clubslike Wolves and Stoke, who are set to struggle in the Premier Leaguenext season, may need to gamble a little in the transfer market but theodds on this signing being successful are very long indeed.    More from Hatchet Man. HATCHET MAN: Obi set for new Chelsea contract but he's still nowhere near the real deal01/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Rio's rock solid but Manchester United need more like him at the back01/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Big boys Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool are wrong to believe in Santa01/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Forget heroic defending - limited Chelsea were just running scared against Barcelona30/04/09 HATCHET MAN: Does Moyes need a washed-up Liverpool legend/Newcastle failure at Goodison Park?
